Trenchtown Sports: AZ Sports Most likely…

The College athletic landscape has flipped upside down. This is the first time in a very long time we’ve shaken up the post season and some big conferences got even bigger. NIL and the transfer portal have mixed reviews. We can all agree there are huge flaws that need to be ironed out. For most of the Pac 12 teams transitioning to the Big 12 has been a little bit of a culture shock; Dillingham’s squad in Tempe haven’t looked phased by the transition. What about Gannon and Kyler having a share of the lead in the NFC West? While holding the tie break over the 49ers if the season were to end today. Or do we go on the safe side and bet on the Suns who have a “Championship or Bust” mentality heading into the season. It’s not like having a Point Guard is kind of a necessity in the NBA right? Who would’ve thought.

Arizona Wildcats Basketball will win the BIG 12 in it’s first year of Joining

Obviously, I have to lead with my beloved Wildcats. Although it’s sad to see the Pac 12 break-up the BIG 12 is a ‘Man’s League’. An absolutely brutal path to a Conference title. We’ll also be a much stronger team heading into March Madness. Tommy Lloyd will be face-to-face with some of College Basketballs greatest coaches. Scott Drew has a title with Baylor. Kelvin Sampson at Houston is just 264-79 in 10 years at the school. A lot of experts have them winning the whole thing this year. Then you have the headliner with Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks. Self has won the Tournament twice. 5 out of the top 10 teams Nationally are in the BIG 12. You want to be the best, well, you have to beat the best. We know Tommy and PG Caleb Love are ready to fight.

Can ASU compete for a BIG 12 Championship in Football?

Imagine if Sam Leavitt doesn’t go down for any period of time ASU would be a top 25 team. If anyone knows anything about me, that stings. The biggest obstacle for ASU football is going to be Colorado with their 1 loss. CU doesn’t play another ranked team the rest of the season and ASU still has to go thru an undefeated BYU Cougar team. Unfortunately, ASU and CU don’t face each other this season. A perfect scenario is ASU continues to stay in the mix until getting stomped in the Territorial Cup. Thus, UofA making sure ASU stays out of the conversation.

Cardinals Play meaningful Football in January

No starting QB has taken more unfair heat than Kyler. His leadership has always been questioned but he is putting that to rest by the week. Marvin Harrison Jr. has looked more comfortable by the week. Offensive Coordinator Drew Penzing is figuring out different ways to get him involved. Having a Violent running game is a key to this offense. Fortunately for the Cards James Connor is looking to deliver haymakers everytime he touches the ball. He’s got a middle LB mentality at RB. This mixed with a down year for the NFC West is why the Cardinals have a real chance. But they need to create space with the 49ers big dawgs returning at some point.

Coach Budd brings a Championship to the Valley Because He Owes Us a Championship

Two was the magical number. Two wins away from bringing the first NBA Championship to Phoenix. Mike Budenholzer put an end to any Championship aspirations. It was devastating. Coach Bud is a native of Holbrook, AZ and a lifelong Suns fan. It was only right for him to come home where his love for the game began. A 4-1 start is nice but it’s how they’re winning is what gets us amped. It’s amazing what a true point guard can do for a team. Booker and Durant are fresh off a Gold Medal tour and hungry and Beal looking healthy.

The safe pick would be Suns winning a Championship because they have invested in a Championship-level roster. ASU was picked to finish last in the BIG 12 so what they have been able to do in the first half of the season is impressive.
